Research
& Development

Research and development forms an important part of Soil Plus’ strategy.

Our objective is not simply to manufacture compost, but to continuously develop and improve locally produced soil amendments, growing media and organic agricultural inputs suited to Mauritian conditions.

Our R&D
activities include:

• Development and improvement of compost formulations
• Development of enriched soil blends
• Development of specialised seedling and growing substrates
• Development of pelletised organic fertilisers such as EcoGrow Plus
• Evaluation of locally available agricultural and organic materials as potential raw materials
• Product testing under actual agricultural and landscaping conditions
• Monitoring parameters such as pH, moisture, organic matter and nutrient characteristics
• Continuous improvement of production and quality-control procedures
• Development of specialised products for different crops and growing systems
• Sending new samples to Mauritius Standards Bureau to understand technical properties of our products and how we can improve them for consistent production and quality

Product Testing &
Field Application

Soil Plus places particular importance on testing products under practical growing conditions.

Our products are used and evaluated in collaboration with agricultural and landscaping operations, allowing us to observe product behaviour under real conditions involving vegetable production, nurseries, lawns, ornamental plants and landscaping.

This practical approach enables Soil Plus to continuously collect feedback and improve its formulations.

We rely a lot on planters as well. We take note of all positive and negative feedback from planters. The negative feedback helps us to review our production process and improve what are doing wrong.

EcoGrow Plus Research

One of our important R&D initiatives has been the development of EcoGrow Plus, a locally manufactured organic fertiliser pellet.

EcoGrow Plus has undergone agricultural evaluation, including trials conducted by FAREI on bean and cabbage cultivation, as part of our efforts to assess the performance and potential of locally manufactured organic agricultural inputs.

This initiative reflects our wider objective of developing products capable of contributing towards:

More sustainable agriculture

Productive recycling of agricultural by-products

Greater utilisation of locally available resources

Reduced dependence on imported agricultural inputs

Development of circular-economy solutions for
Mauritius
